There was a bit of an uproar last month when fans that purchased Bethesda’s Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition felt cheated when they ended up receiving a nylon bag instead of the canvas one that was initially promised. The company responded and apologized for the matter, indicating that they would give 500 Atoms for consumers that didn’t get what they paid for. But now apparently, the company is going the extra mile and looking to make those canvas bags happen after all.
YouTubers and streamers attended a Fallout 76 event at the The Greenbrier, a real-life hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in October to get an early look at the game. Attendees received some free Fallout swag, which included a canvas Fallout 76 rucksack, as GameRant reports.
The bag turned into a public relations disaster for Bethesda last week when players started getting the $200 collector’s edition. Despite promising a sturdy-looking “canvas” bag in promotional materials, Bethesda ended up shipping a cheap nylon bag with the Power Armor Edition instead. The whole thing blew up on social media, forcing Bethesda to respond. The company announced that it would be giving people who bought the Power Armor Edition 500 Atoms -- the equivalent of $5 in the game's microtransaction store. Unfortunately, 500 Atoms gets you next to nothing of worth. Of course, this move only fuelled the fire, and Bethesda was hit with an even bigger backlash.
Fallout 76 is not without its other controversies, though. When Bethesda initially announced the online game based on its popular franchise, fans were less than thrilled. After the game released, though, Fallout fans became angry. Not only did the title come with a series of game-breaking bugs, but there were portions of the game that were completely unplayable. Players also soon learned that Bethesda has a strict no-refunds policy, making many mad enough to consider potentially filing a class action lawsuit against the developer.
Separate to the events of the great kerduffel of 2018, Bethesda has also come under fire for its confusing Fallout 76 PC version refund policy. Although some players reported they'd received refunds, others were less successful, and a legal firm now claims to be investigating the situation. Again, it seems unlikely any legal action will take place, but it's certainly not a great look for Bethesda in what has been a disastrous game launch. |
